There's no single right size for a lampshade, it depends on the base, the room and what type of atmosphere you're after. A couple of rules of thumb: the shade should be wide enough to sit comfortably beyond the widest point of the base, and tall enough to fully cover the fitting. Beyond that, trust your eye. Hold something roughly the right size up against the lamp before you decide — it tells you more than any measurement will.
We keep our range simple: three shapes, a handful of sizes in each.
Straight-sided and even from top to bottom, this is the most versatile shape we make. Equally at home on a bedside or living room table, a ceiling/pendant lamp or on a floor standing standard lamp.
A gentle taper from a narrower top to a wider base. Softer than the drum, and forgiving of a wider range of base styles.
Our smallest shade, sized for wall lights and slim candlestick-style bases. Clips straight onto the bulb — no fitting to worry about.
The Drum and Conical shades come with a standard utility ring fitting as default. A duplex fitting is available on request — email us at hello@foldandfinch.co.uk if that's what you need and we'll sort it before your shade is made.
The Candle Clip shade clips directly onto a candle-style bulb, so there's no separate fitting to choose.
